Fake hair for babies? Say what???
General — By Shannon Schmid on October 4, 2009 at 12:24 amPeople I just have to share the insanity that is “Baby Bangs.”
The basic idea is that instead of just putting a headband on your lovely baby girl, you can put a headband on her that has hair sewn in it!!! No matter that your darling baby has only a few wisps of hair naturally – you can fake out all your friends & relatives and take pictures of her with a wig on!!!
SERIOUSLY PEOPLE?!?!?

Look, I understand wanting to know what your baby will look like when her hair grows in. I have often looked at our daughter and imagined different kinds of hair on her. But never in my craziest moment would I put a WIG on my baby while we walked around the mall!

I think this is really crazy. And frankly I worry for the babies that are put through this. What kind of mom is so obsessed with outward appearances, and others ideas of beauty that they subject an infant to a hair piece?? What kind of messages is that poor baby going to get when she grows up, if you can’t wait for her to reach toddler hood, before you start making her your own little fashion accessory?
It’s one thing for a child who has lost their hair to illness to want something to replace that part of themselves. But to market hair pieces to babies who legitimately haven’t grown any hair yet? Spend your money on better things- like the therapy your daughter is going to need growing up in a house that thinks this is okay!!!!
Honest to goodness people. Nuts. Nuts I tell you!!!

OMG! That's so crazy. It's not like this is designed for toddlers with cancer or some other hair loss situation. This is clearly aimed and the mothers of newborns who haven't grown hair yet. Obviously it is only for the mother's vanity. And as the blog says, what does that say to the child. Imagine looking at your baby pic's when you are older and asking mommy, "why was I blonde when I was little, but have black hair now?" "Oh, that was just a wig, honey. You weren't pretty enough the way God made you, so I just helped him out a bit by adding hair early." Give me a break. Good blog!

That is INSANE. You said it best…what kind of mom is so obsessed with outward appearance that they'd do this ??? Just bizarre.

LOL the little baby girl looks so funny with the headband and wig in the second pic!!
I think its crazy too to try and make a baby look like they've got hair before they actually do, unless its maybe for a halloween costume!!

OMG! That's crazy!!! I think SNL actually did a satirical commercial advertising these things (baby toupees for baby boys)- but I didn't honestly think they were REAL!

It's much like the moms who enter their toddlers in baby beauty pagents – it's really scary when they're slapping fake eyelashes and makeup on tiny faces. It could (and should) be classified as child abuse – those baby pagents should be found to be in violation of child-protective laws I would think. Just crazy! Great blog!

For real? That is creeee-py. I can't imagine looking at a sweet, perfect baby and thinking she needed some kind of cosmetic improvement. It's scary to think about the pressure moms like that will likely be putting on their daughters as they get older!

It is creepy… but I have bald babies… and it's really, really irritating to be asked for the umpteenth time how cute my all-pink attired little BOY is… I've thought about it. Would never do it, but have thought about it

Emma would have pulled it right off. She wouldn't even wear the regular headbands. Even if I were one of "those mothers," without glue or staples, my child would have had other ideas.

It’s not that serious.. I saw a baby in a headband with two tiny puffed pigtails sprouting out. I lol it was so cute. The baby was grinning ear to ear. I don’t think it was traumatic. Just funny ant cute…
